Background:

The Muny, founded in 1919, is the largest outdoor musical theatre in North America. Our mission is to enrich lives by producing exceptional musical theatre, accessible to all, continuing our tradition in Forest Park. We produce and present 7 exciting, Broadway-style musicals every summer.
We fulfill our mission of presenting shows that are accessible to all in many ways. First, many of our shows are family friendly so everyone can enjoy great theatre under the stars. Additionally, The Muny has approximately 10,800 seats. The last 9 rows of the theatre (1,456 seats) are free. The Muny partners with more than 125 community organizations, enabling their clients to see a show for free. That program, along with the free seats, enables more than 100,000 people to see a show for free every summer. This ensures that all of our community members, regardless of economic status, can enjoy an evening at The Muny.
In addition, we have a number of services focused on providing access to The Muny for individuals with disabilities. These important services need your support.
The Muny’s Access Services:
Sign language interpreters during Hairspray, 2015.
The Muny provides designated parking for individuals with disabilities, wheelchair assistance facilitated by our trained usher staff, and designated seating for patrons with disabilities throughout the auditorium. Additionally, during the performances, patrons with disabilities have access to assistive listening devices, sign language interpretive services, and described performances.
Our services stretch to all parts of the Muny experience, including wheelchair access to our backstage tours and dining at the Culver pavilion, accessible restrooms and water fountains, braille menus at all concession stands, and appropriate signage throughout the Muny campus help to make the Muny experience a grand one for every guest.
However, we know there is more work to be done.
We have an aggressive goal to raise $10,000 by August 31st and we need your help.
Why support?
A patron picks up an assistive listening device
Your donation will help us replace much needed wheelchairs, maintain our current available services, and improve upon them so that we can stay up-to-date with the latest technologies.
Although The Muny’s access services specifically benefit individuals who need assistance when attending a Muny show, they also benefit all members of The Muny’s community—from patrons to staff to performers—because they make it possible for everyone to enjoy The Muny.
Donate today so that all members of the Muny community—current and future—can access and enjoy the exceptional musical theatre made available to the greater Saint Louis community by The Muny.
