Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gladitood?
Gladitood is a crowdfunding platform for nonprofits to raise funds and rally volunteers around their projects.
How does it work?
Each project you see on Gladitood is independently created by the organization behind it. They have complete control and responsibility over their project, and they spend a lot of time making sure it’s perfect. When they’re ready, they share it with the world to receive the support it needs to come to life.
What is Gladitood for?
Gladitood is for nonprofits and donors interested in improving the world by helping people or the planet.
What are Gladitood’s fundraising rules?
With Gladitood, you can fundraise on your terms. With our flexible funding, you can raise money for as long as you need and collect donations immediately.
If you know you won’t be able to make a positive impact unless you reach your fundraising goal, you can choose fixed funding. With Fixed funding, you won’t collect donations until you reach your goal. If you fall short, no credit cards are charged.
Why do people back projects?
People love backing projects on Gladitood! (We’re not biased.)
Most people are rallying around their favorite charity’s project, and lots of other people come to Gladitood looking for a way to give back.
Backing a project is more than just giving money to charity. It’s supporting a cause you care about, with the opportunity to see exactly how your small donation makes a HUGE impact!
Where do backers come from?
Most initial donations will come directly from supporters of the organization running the project. If they like it, they’ll spread the word to their friends, and then those friends will spread the word to their friends. And the cycle continues. Before you know it, you’ll have backers from around the world!
Don’t overlook promoting your project though! Press, blogs, and social media are also a big source of donations to your projects,
What are the fees?
Gladitood applies a small 5% fee to keep our lights on. Our payments processor will apply a 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction fee.
Who is Gladitood?
Gladitood is a hodgepodge of awesome people based in St. Louis, Missouri. Some people ask us “Why are you still in St. Louis?” Because we care about this community, and we want to use our success to improve it. Every day we wake up excited to help the next awesome project improve this world.
Where do projects come from?
Projects come from organizations and communities all over the world. They might be new ideas or proven models for positive impact, but every project on Gladitood exists to improve this world.

Who is responsible for completing a project as promised?
It’s the organization’s responsibility to complete the project once it’s funded. Gladitood is not involved with the development of projects.
Although Gladitood goes through lengths to make sure each project meets our guidelines, it’s up to the community of backers to decide if a project is worth funding or not.
How do backers know if a project will follow through?
Putting a project on Gladitood is a public act of goodwill, and organizations are putting their reputations on the line. We encourage each organization to provide proof of previous success carrying out projects, as well as links to their website, facebook, and other sites that lend credibility. In the end, it’s up to the community to decide if a project can be trusted to follow through.
How do I know a project creator is who they say they are?
Gladitood checks every project to ensure they are acting in the interest of the organization they’re representing. You may know the creator personally, or know a friend of the creator. Hopefully you’ve heard about the project through a trusted source.
If you’re looking for additional information, we encourage each creator to provide links to their website, facebook, twitter, and any other links that can help verify their identity.
Take time to read through the project and watch the video to get a sense of the team, and then make your best judgement as to whether they can be trusted with your donation or not.
If you have more questions, don’t be shy, reach out by leaving a comment on their project page.
What should organizations do if they’re having trouble completing their project?
If problems arise, organizations should post an update explaining the situation. Be completely transparent and honest about obstacles hindering progress. So long as backers are kept in the loop, they are usually understanding.
It’s not uncommon for projects to take longer than expected due to unforeseen circumstances. So long as an organization continues to work towards their goal, backers should try to be understanding and supportive, while expecting continued accountability.
If for some reason the project cannot be completed, organizations are expected to explain exactly how the funds were spent, and how the remaining funds (if any) can be used to maximize their impact.
What is an organization obligated to do once their project is funded?
Once the project is funded, organizations are expected to complete their project, fulfill the rewards, and update their backers. Their fundamental obligation is to show the backers exactly how their contribution makes an impact.
Can Gladitood refund the money if the project is unable to fulfill their promises?
No. Gladitood does not refund donations as the transaction is between organizations and backers.
What does Gladitood do to protect its community?
Gladitood checks out every project for suspicious activity to the best of our ability. We also take a closer look at projects reported to us by our community and take action to remove them if necessary.
To date, we haven’t had any fraudulent activity on Gladitood.
How do I report a suspicious project?
Every project has a link at the bottom right that says “Report this project.” Just click on it and send us a note.

If I have more questions, what should I do?
If you have a question that hasn’t been answered here, reach out to us HERE.

How do I start a project?
Any nonprofit with a project that benefits a community of people or the environment is eligible to fundraise with Gladitood. You can get started HERE
Yes. Gladitood is unique because it was created specifically for nonprofits. This model allows us to guarantee every project is high quality and carried out by people who have dedicated their lives to their cause. Are you one of those people? Well quit just sitting there and GET STARTED!
Are donations tax deductible?
All donations on Gladitood to organizations with an up-to-date tax exempt status are tax deductible. Organizations are responsible for providing their donors with tax receipts.
How do you vet the volunteers that sign up?
The organization is responsible for vetting volunteers. Each backer that signs up to volunteer to a project must fill out a preliminary volunteer application which should be reviewed. If the volunteer isn’t a good fit, you’re not obligated to accept all (or any) of the volunteers that sign up for your project.
We do have to say, though, that excited volunteers do an amazing job of spreading the word for your project and organization.
Can I use Gladitood for a project right here in the US?
Absolutely! Projects anywhere in the world are welcome.
What is Stripe? And why do I need to create an account with them?
Stripe is our secure payment processor. The funds you raise will go directly into your Stripe account, and from there, you can transfer them into your organization’s bank account.
What is the fixed funding option?
Fixed funding means you will only collect donations if you reach your goal. You would pick this option if you need to raise a certain amount and cannot make an impact without the full amount. If you do not meet your fundraising goal, no donations will process.
What is the flexible funding option?
Flexible funding means you will collect donations immediately and can fundraise for as long as you need. Know you can make an impact even if you don’t reach your goal? Want to start raising money online for a project next year? Flexible funding is right for you.
How long can I run my fundraiser?
Pick the deadline that is right for you. Whether that means a two week fundraising sprint or a two year marathon, take the time you need to be successful.
When will I collect the donations?
Fixed funding projects will collect donations when their project ends if they’ve reached their goal.
Flexible funding projects collect donations as they come in.
What are the fees?
Gladitood applies a small 5% fee to keep our lights on. Our payment processor will apply a 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction fee.

Is there an age limit for volunteers?
Each project will set the age requirements for their volunteers. As far as Gladitood’s concerned, you’re never too young or old to lend a hand or add a smile! Our lawyers tell us volunteers should be at least 18, or have permission from their parents.
Does Gladitood plan volunteer trips?
All volunteer trips are planned independently. That’s the beauty of Gladitood! Find volunteer opportunities for causes you care about in places you want to visit, then go! No expensive agency fees. Volunteering shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.
